DFW AIRPORT, Texas, June 24, 2024
If you lose a personal item when traveling to, from or through DFW Airport this summer, there is a good chance you’ll get it back. That’s because the airport implemented an artificial intelligence-driven image recognition system five years ago, which has resulted in an impressive average daily return rate of about 90 percent.
DFW partners with Hallmark Aviation to deliver this innovative program. Since its inception in 2019, DFW’s Lost and Found program has restored more than 40,000 missing items to their rightful owners.
Here’s how it works. DFW’s Lost and Found staff conducts daily sweeps across the airport in search of lost items. When a lost item makes its way into DFW’s Lost and Found, it is cataloged and categorized in the online system, streamlining the process for both staff and travelers. The innovative technology automatically identifies the type and color of found items, even capturing details like brand, serial numbers, and information from IDs. Travelers can access the system around the clock as soon as they realize they have misplaced something. This approach improves accessibility and immediacy, while minimizing return time. Once an item is found, customers are given the option of in-person pick-up or having the item shipped to their home address.
If you are traveling this summer for business or pleasure, here are a few helpful tips for a smooth travel experience:
Plan your journey – Using the Plan page on DFW Airport’s website, you can find information on Airlines, security checkpoints, and other passenger amenities. Being more prepared for your journey will help keep you more organized and relaxed, reducing the risk of misplacing personal items.
Book your parking early – You can pay for your parking in advance by visiting our Prebooked Parking page. The earlier you book the more you save.
Arrive early – Be sure to arrive at least two hours early for a domestic or international flight. You can easily find your gate information from your Airline or from the DFW Airport App. Arriving early reduces stress and helps reduce the chance of forgetting personal items on the way to your gate.
